The Best in Skin Care for 2006

May 7th, 2008

The skin, as we are all taught in high school, is the largest and the most visible tissue in the human body. Of course it is. It covers us entirely from head to toe. It is our protective casing that allows us to move freely and gives us feedback on external textures, climate and other things associated with the sense of touch. The pores in our skin also helps us to release internal wastes through perspiration. These, among other benefits and special characteristics, make our skin one of the most important parts of our body - and therefore one of the first things to take care of.

We want our skin to be supple and smooth, yet still strong and healthy. There have been countless skin care products and treatments developed over the years that have helped a lot of people and solved many skin problems. However, it’s one thing to cure skin damage and it’s another to protect it. When you were born, your skin was nothing short of perfect. Therefore, the first logical thing to do is to protect your skin from any kind of damage or unwanted reaction from external factors.

Nonetheless, there are numerous things that can damage your skin even without you knowing it. Some of these would be climate or weather, unknown allergies from food or drink, and the most dreaded skin damager of all - age. Though it’s possible to stay away from harsh climates and food you are allergic to, it is sad to note that age is something that we simply cannot avoid. Everything solid in this world wears out with age. However, this doesn’t mean we can’t do anything about it.

There are various products and treatments available for making your skin look younger and less wrinkled, like TCA peels and other various skin peels. Nevertheless, the important thing is to keep your skin as healthy as possible all the time while you’re young, in order to effectively help in slowing down the ageing process. The more careless you are with your skin, the faster it’ll develop wrinkles and look older.

Leading dermatologist Greta Winslow of Wade Skin Clinic advises “….always remember that healthy skin is the result of a healthy lifestyle. And by healthy lifestyle, we mean a balanced diet, lots of water (less sodas and carbonated drinks), sufficient vitamins, regular exercise, enough sleep, no smoking, less alcohol consumption, good exfoliation with skin peels like TCA peels, and effective management of daily stress. It’s also good to suggest that the use of tanning beds and some topical skin treatments or medication that are said to provide “instant” results may be more harmful than helpful. It’s always good to consult with a skin doctor for things you aren’t sure of”

In addition to these lifestyle tips, skin experts say that the best way to care for your skin is to cleanse it as often as possible, or at least on a daily basis. They note, however, that the choice of skin cleanser is critical in having healthy skin. Choose the one that’s mild and with less chemicals. Make up must be totally removed before cleansing and always use only lukewarm water. For additional information, visit http://www.bestskinpeel.com

Top 10 Myths About Hair Loss

May 6th, 2008

Have you ever seen the show Myth Busters? Well we’re about to bust some common myths and misconceptions related to hair loss. Call us the ‘Hair-Myth Busters.’ The following myths have been passed on for generations. Some of them have been heard so many times that they must be true. Right? No. A myth is just that-a myth. There’s no scientific evidence that supports any of these tall tales.

Myth 1: Wearing a ball-cap can make you go bald.

Oh, we’ve all heard this one before. Now ask yourself this: How come all of the professional baseball players aren’t bald? This old tale is assumed to be passed down from the time of WWI. Incidentally, soldiers started reporting hair loss and attributed it to their uniform hats. We could only attribute these reports as coincidence, as men display signs of male pattern baldness in their twenties.

Myth 2: Men who are balding should trim their hair every few weeks. It will make hair grow back faster.

Sorry guys, it isn’t true. Your head is not a lawn. Hair cannot be compared to weeds. When hair is gone, it’s gone-unless of course it’s temporary hair loss. That’s entirely different. Otherwise, medical treatments are the only solution to re-grow missing hair.

Myth 3: Split ends must be repaired or you’ll go bald!

Unfortunately there’s nothing that can ‘repair’ split ends. Nevertheless, split ends should be cut off, as the split ends will spread and promote more damage to your hair.

Myth 4: Men and women experiencing hair loss aren’t brushing their hair enough.

Woah! This ‘Hair Myth’ has been busted. Excessive brushing is the leading contributor to split ends and breakage of hair. This doesn’t mean you shouldn’t groom yourself anymore! Just get your hair the way you want it and put the brush down! Nobody needs to stroke their hair with a brush 100 times a day.

Myth 5: If you shave your head, less hair will grow back

Spare us the Hair Scare! You can’t shave away your hair follicles…Your hair will grow back if you shave your head.

Myth 6: Balding Men should pluck all of their gray hair, as two hairs will grow back in place of each one!

If this were true, balding men would be pulling out their gray’s by the fistful, just to get a full head of hair. I suppose they’d dye it later…But this story is obviously bogus.

Myth 7: Baldness can always be traced back to the mother’s side of the family.

Poor mom! While pattern baldness is genetic, it can be passed down from the mother or father’s side. It may or may not skip generations. Guys, don’t expect mom to reimurse you for your Minoxidil purchases!

Myth 8: Most women aren’t attracted to bald men.

Um, tell that to Bruce Willis, Billy Zane, Michael Jordan, Andre Agassi, Montel Williams, Billy Corgan, Michael Stipe, Charles Barkley, Stanley Tucci, Samuel L. Jackson, Nicholas Cage, and Vin Diesel. This one is obviously nothing more than a myth.

Myth 9: Losing 100 hairs a day is NOT normal.

Actually, that’s very normal. That’s the average amount of hair that a person sheds on a daily basis.

Myth 10: Blow Dryers Cause Hair Loss

Not exactly. Blow Dryers can over-dry and damage your hair. But once the damaged hair fall out, new hair will replace it. Balding isn’t connected with blow-drying your hair.

What You Need To Know About Cosmetic Surgery Costs

May 2nd, 2008

Cosmetic surgery costs are high. It is often something that we all strive to learn about, though. Is cosmetic surgery really something that is worth the cost? Do we really better ourselves if we use this costly surgery? This is ultimately an individual decision. The good news is that the cost for products like tummy tucks and face lifts is coming down some. It is essential that the cosmetic surgery costs be considered in what they will completely provide. It is more than just the way that your face looks.

Cosmetic surgery costs are often thought of as being so high that only the rich and the famous are able to truly afford them. While this may have been true at one time, it is not true any longer. In fact, cosmetic surgery costs can be affordable to more and more people today. There are several things that provide for what that cost will be, though. Here are just some of them.

Your need. The type of surgery that you have is one of the most important parts of the cost of it. For example, the cost of a tummy tuck is a much different cost that that of a facelift.

Your specific situation. The circumstances for your individual surgery are another factor that plays a role. Often times, you will need to pay more if you are to receive the same surgery as your friend. Why is that? There are a number of reasons including the surgery length, the surgery risk that you present, and the amount of work that needs to be done to deliver the same results.

Your doctor. Another factor that makes cosmetic surgery costs what they are is the fact that doctor’s rates are always changing. One doctor may charge less than others. Some doctors with quite a bit of experience that are highly rated, charge more than those that have less experience. Quality does come at a price, sometimes.

Location. There is no doubt that the cosmetic surgery costs on the west coast (or in areas like New York) are going to cost more than the same surgery performed in a more remote part of the country. Although the surgery may be the same, the demand for it helps to control costs in those areas. Therefore, you may pay more if you travel far to get the surgery handled.

Cosmetic surgery costs are high, but the benefits that they provide to you can be much more pleasing than having the funds in the bank. Not only do you look better, but many that have cosmetic surgeries also have improvements to their self esteem with can provide a better outlook on life. Consider the whole picture when it comes to the cosmetic surgery costs that you find.

Acne - Know How It Forms And Get Clear Skin

April 28th, 2008

Acne forms near the opening of the sebaceous glands that have hair follicle in them. In normal circumstances, the cells that form the wall of the gland should exfoliate from the pore opening. In certain circumstances these cells become dysfunctional and instead of exfoliating normally, block the pore opening.

In the meantime, the glands keep producing sebum and if hormonal disturbance is present the glands produce sebum at a higher rate. This sebum keeps filling the gland sack and the bacteria called Proprionobacterium acnes (P. acnes) thrive in the atmosphere that is full of sebum and no air. As the bacteria flourishes, the gland gets infected.

At this stage when the bacteria are flourishing and causing inflammation, the gland is producing more sebum and the pore is blocked, the gland becomes very infective and full of dead cells, bacteria, pus and dead skin. This is what we call as a papule or a cyst. The acne grows through different stages and this is the last stage after which the gland ruptures.

Thus acne is not a single stage disease but many causes join together to progressively increase the intensity of acne formation. Teenagers get more acne because the hormonal balance of their body changes during that period. The hormone androgen is normally responsible for accelerating the production of sebum.

Doctors try to intervene during the process of formation of acne and its growth and try to prevent formation of cyst that may scar the skin forever. The same hormonal disturbance is responsible for acne outbreak in some women during their menstrual cycles.

Want Power Over Others? Mind Control Begins With You

April 10th, 2008

My friend, Dr. La Tourrette, tells about a trucker who had
back trouble and couldn’t figure out why.

Then one day he noticed that it was because he was sitting
sideways, bending his spine at odd angles because his butt
was on his wallet that was too thick because he was carrying
around paperwork and all his credit and discount club and
frequent diner cards in his wallet. So he started carrying
his wallet in one of those fanny packs and could sit down
normally.

All of a sudden, his back didn’t hurt any more.

But he still didn’t see any relief, because then he noticed
that he had headaches from squinting all day. So he learned
how to see clearly with relaxed vision and to relax the
muscles in his head, to breathe deeply so oxygen could get
to the brain and to the muscles in his face and head.

And the headaches went away. But he still hadn’t found
total relief.

Then he noticed his feet hurt. So he got rid of the shoes
somebody else had bought for him and got new shoes that fit
his feet and didn’t tie them quite as tightly so he could
have proper circulation and relaxation all the way from head
to toe.

I also remember Doc saying that it’s real difficult to
activate the radiant energies that help you gain influence
over yourself and others if the feet are sore from the wrong
shoes.

Ever try walking in the shoes someone else handed you
instead of the ones that are right for you?

Many people are walking around in shoes someone else handed
them, and they don’t understand why they can’t make life
work for them instead of against them.

Those people are easily manipulated by others and they never
truly reach their full potential in life. They’ve been
conditioned their entire lives so that they don’t even
notice what’s wrong. They just know they hardly ever feel
the way they truly want to feel fulfilled deep down inside,
no matter how hard they try.

So the only way to truly have power over your own mind and
influence with others is to first of all become aware and to
start to take control of your own life instead of trying to
walk in the shoes that someone else picked out for you.

It’s not up to your mother or father to give you the shoes
that are right for you. It’s not up to your preacher to
tell you what shoes to walk in. And depending on those
government issue “one size fits all” shoes will never get
you where you’re supposed to go in life, either.

I’m not saying to rebel against society or to become an
anti-social psychotic. What I am saying is that we all
chose to come to this planet to learn and to grow in ways
that are meaningful to us as individuals.

Neither your mother nor your father nor your friends nor
your preacher nor anyone else is qualified to tell you to
live some life other than one that is congruent with your
own path and your own learnings.

Having said that, it sure is nice to learn from the mistakes
and the successes of others so you don’t have to reinvent
the wheel.

But no one else is responsible for your success or lack of
success. You and only you are responsible for your life and
what you do with it.

Regardless of your religious beliefs, you and you alone
decide what you will or will not accomplish in this
lifetime. The Puritans, who were very religious, had a
saying: “Pray as if it all depends on God, and then go take
action as if it all depends on you.”

Those who grow and learn will gain more and more growth and
learnings, while those who shrink back for fear of taking
action end up losing even what they did have.

Most people have some sort of “religious” view about what it
means to be “spiritual”. But in the parable of the talents,
Jesus said the one who buried his talent because he was
afraid and didn’t use what he had available to him was the
one who was wicked and lazy.

I hope that as we learn more neat things together we can use
to help ourselves and others get what we want in life that
you will take these abilities and use them in ways that have
meaning for you that help you to free yourself from the
limitations you previously thought you had and to instead
grow and learn on the path that is right for you.

I look forward to seeing you in future newsletters and
learning together.

Thank you, and God bless.

Acne Program - Step 9 Protein and Other Food to Eat

March 26th, 2008

Eating the right kind of food is what can give you a strong immune system and help you prevent sickness and all kinds of skin blemishes including acne.

Here are some of the foods that can help you overcome the acne on your face or throughout your body.

Protein

Eating excess meat is harmful to your health. Eating too much meat, more than 2-4 ounces per day, has been found to contribute to narrowing of the arteries.

If you do physical labor and are involved in a lot of movement in your work, then you should eat more than 2-4 ounces of protein per day. Just make sure that the meat has a minimum of additives and preservatives.

Remember, meat is high in saturated fat, which blocks the activity of EPA and DHA, which produce prostaglandin and control the activity of your hormones.

Meat and bread is a big contributor to creating constipation. Meat is difficult to digest and many times it will get into the colon partial digested. This condition benefits the bad bacteria and allows them to dominate the colon and create constipation.

Because meat and bread have little fiber, they move slowly in the colon, which leads to constipation and eventually to some type of colon inflammation.

Bad bacteria, decaying meat and other undigested food contribute to the build up of toxic matter in the colon. This is the type of condition you should try to avoid, if you have acne. You need fecal matter in the colon to move regularly and out the rectum, otherwise, toxic matter will build up and end up in your blood stream

Here are the grains you should be eating:

* Brown rice - contain many amino acids that help rebuild skin tissue

* Whole grains - contain folic acid, magnesium, and vitamin E, B vitamins, minerals, and fiber

* Oats - use them in the morning with honey or raisins. Oats have an anti-inflammatory effect on the skin and help to keep you regular.

Seeds and nuts

* Almonds - Almonds contain protein, the B vitamins, calcium, iron, potassium, magnesium, and phosphorus. Use them as a snack. These small nuts help to build muscles and tissue.

* Flax seeds - These seeds are known for containing plenty of omega 3 oil, an essential oil for life. They also contain fiber when used ground up and put into smoothies. Omega 3 is also an anti-inflammatory oil, which is good for acne.

* Pecans - This is one of the good nuts to eat. It contains Vitamin A, B’s, C, calcium, iron, phosphorus, and potassium. Use them as a snack.

* Pine nuts - these nuts also one of the best to eat. They contain vitamin A, C, B’s, protein and iron.

* Sesame seeds - They are high in calcium, phosphorus, and potassium. They are helpful in relieving various skin diseases such as acne by reducing the swelling.

* Sunflower seeds - These seeds should be used as a snack. They are high in protein, calcium and vitamin A. They provide nutrients for building the whole body and are good for dry skin.

All of these nuts and seeds should be eaten raw. Heating and other processing will kill the life force of the nut or seed and also reduce the quantity of the vitamins and minerals.

Eat these nuts and seeds as snacks. Sesame seeds, sunflower, and flax seeds can be put directly into your blender as you make your smoothies.
