Poker Terms: "the Board"
At a poker table, ‘the board’ refers to the set of community cards dealt face up on the table for all players to use as part of their hands. ‘The board,’ then, is a part of games like Texas hold em and Omaha, but not part of stud games, such as 7 or 5 card stud, or razz, etc. All cards dealt onto the board can be used by the players active in a hand in combination with their hole cards. In the hold em and Omaha poker en ligne variations, the board is dealt in three different ’streets,’ consisting of the flop (three cards), the turn, and the river (each only one card).
For each hand dealt in a ring game of poker, a new board is dealt for every hand, thus making the combinations of the cards dealt different for every hand. Often times the full set of community cards will not be dealt out, as, for instance, in a game of Texas Hold em, the hand might end before the necessity of dealing out a turn or river.
The texture of the board dictates the possible range of winning hands, such as in order for a flush to be possible there must be at least three of one suit on the board, for a full house to be possible there must be a pair on board, and etc.
