Choosing a Poker Tournament
May 28th, 2009In choosing what model of online poker tournament is best for you and your particular style of play, there are a variety of option to take into consideration.
The first of these, and obviously the most major one (after the even more obvious variety of choosing the style of poker online at hand: hold em, Omaha, stud, etc.), is the cost of the event. Playing within one’s bankroll, where the cost of the buy in reflects only a percentage of the funds you have available, is key to winning in the long run, with variance of results by luck based factors being a factor. There are a variety of opinions on how much your roll you should maximally stake on one event, but in general, not putting too much out there at once in relation to your total horde is key.
Once you have your price picked, you will want to look at the more specific varieties of the game. First, is the entry fee in relation to the payout fair? Is it a rebuy poker online tournament? Is there an add on? In most cases, these additional costs that aren’t figured in to the up front price.
Also, how large will the field be in relation to how many get paid? These factors tend to change as the registration comes to a close (unless the event has a guarantee), so waiting until later in the process can give you a better idea of what you stand to win.
Overall, look for everything you want in one event. There are too many options around now to not get exactly the terms in which you would be most comfortable.
