The dangers of asbestos

February 27th, 2009

If you read the newspaper or watch the nightly news, chances are you’ve heard about some of the dangers of asbestos. What is often ignored in these messages, however, is that asbestos also has a number of useful properties. If used responsibly and maintained in good condition, asbestos can be beneficial without causing harm.

What is asbestos? The term refers to microscopic, naturally occurring fibrous silicate minerals. These minerals have been used for years by the construction industry. The three most common types of asbestos are chrysotile, amosite, and crocidolite. Asbestos is commonly used in insulation, fireproofing, roofing, flooring, and other building materials. The strength of the fibers and asbestos’s resistance to heat make these materials very useful.

Why, then, are people afraid of asbestos? Well, asbestos is a carcinogenic, toxic substance. Asbestos-containing materials are not a health risk if they are left undisturbed. However, if these materials become damaged, the asbestos fibers separate and become airborne. This is when human exposure is likely to occur, as asbestos may be inhaled into the lungs.

While no “safe level” of exposure has been determined, health problems are more common with greater and longer exposure to the fibers. Some of these health problems include asbestosis, mesothelioma, and lung cancer. It is not true that asbestos causes headaches or sore muscles, as many once believed. Immediate health issues like these are rarely seen. In actuality, most damaging health effects of asbestos exposure don’t surface until many years later. Perhaps this is why building buyers prefer to err on the side of caution when asbestos inspections are done.

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has developed a program for schools and other building owners in order to keep asbestos fiber levels low. In an effort to protect students and residents, the program aims to teach people how to recognize asbestos-containing materials. It also educates people about how to manage these materials and how to avoid exposure. With proper education and careful management, health risks from asbestos can theoretically be prevented.

Branding

February 26th, 2009

Product identification is the process of branding products. The branding is an important aspect of product planning. It involves the assignment of a brand name to the product being offered to the customers. The word “brand” is a comprehensive term. According to the American Marketing Association, a brand is a name, term, symbol or design - or a combination of them - which is intended to identify the goods or services of one seller or group of sellers and to differentiate them from those of competitors.

A brand identifies the product for a buyer and gives the seller a chance to earn goodwill and repeated patronage. Branding is the practice of giving a specified name to a product or group of products from one seller. The specified name creates individuality in the product. Hence, the product can be easily distinguished or recognized in the market from rival products. The sole purpose of branding is to distinguish your branded product from those of competitors. A well-promoted brand name which has earned a reputation in the market is very difficult to compete with.

“Trademark” is a legal term. It is a brand duly registered under the Trade Names and Trade Marks Acts. It is a brand enjoyed only by the seller. Others cannot use it and legal action can be taken if they adopt it. The letter “R” in a circle on each package indicates that the brand is duly registered. The term “brand” is broadly applied to all identifying marks, such as trade names, trade marks, trade symbols, pictures, package designs, distinctive coloring or lettering, slogans, and more. The holder of a registered brand personally stands behind the branded products and personally guarantees the quality and standard of the product as per advertisements issued by holder or his company.

Balance- what does it really mean?

February 25th, 2009

Balance- what a popular topic these days! Finding a work-life balance, being balanced in body, mind and soul, eating a balanced meal, balancing work, play and learning. But what does it really mean? When I ask my clients what balance means to them, most have no idea initially, and find it a good exercise to reflect on. For some it means spending more time with family and/or fun and less time on work, for others it means starting a physical activity. For some it means doing some emotional healing, for others starting a spiritual path. The truth is, we are all individuals, and we each have our unique definition of what balance is. If we take the time to ask ourselves what a balanced life looks like, we’ll find the answer. Or we’ll at least be shown what is not in balance so we can start there!

I lived a large part of my life out of balance. As a mother, daughter, wife, many times I let my needs go to take care of others. Later when the boys left home I let my job consume my life, letting go of the things I knew were good for me because I was ‘too tired’. First went the exercise, then my eating got off track, I stopped meditating, stopped socializing and having fun and isolated myself. It was a cycle of overwhelm, then frustration, then isolation, leading to depression. Now that’s a life really out of balance, I wasn’t taking care of myself physically, mentally, emotionally or spiritually! It was a huge wake-up call to me that I needed to make some major lifestyle changes if I wanted a fulfilling life, and for that I am truly grateful.

As I was recovering from my depression, I started taking care of my body, mind and spirit. As I started leading a more balanced life, I was amazed at the overlap- how when I do something for my physical self for instance, it benefits me in the other areas. Running for example is an exercise for my physical body that has ripple effects mentally, emotionally and spiritually as well. Running down a trail and seeing a deer or the sunset is spiritual, filling my heart with gratitude, emotionally I sometimes start out feeling upset about something, then find my mind clears as I run through the situation and come to understanding, mentally I often work out my agenda for the week, or what my newsletter article will be on or other business items. What I eat affects me physically, mentally and emotionally, which in turn affects me spiritually. What I think creates my emotions which in turn create my actions and results. A good reminder if I am to be healthy in all ways, I need to take care of all parts of me.

Are you paying attention to all parts of your life? Is there an area that needs improvement- career, finances, recreation/fun, family, relationships, personal/spiritual development, environment, physical health or? If not, congratulations! If so, take a look at where you’re at, what you could do to improve your situation and go for it! Change doesn’t have to be big. Do one thing to improve one area of your life and you create more balance? Enjoy the life we are meant to live, a life of prosperity and abundance in all areas! Cheers to you!

Fantastic Ski Conditions All over France

February 25th, 2009

There’s been around two meters of snow in the last seven days. It was so heavy that ski lifts were stopped, the funicular has been finishing at Chamonix train station and not going up to Monroc. Several roads have been closed past our chalet holiday accommodation and avalanche announcements published.

Compare this to a couple of winters ago, with the incredibly hot Feb weather conditions, mud showing on the ski slopes, and reports that climate change would mean the end of skiing in France. The report from winter 2006 warned that global warming could make skiing holidays too dear for many holiday makers, with one-third of resorts becoming insolvent and the thawing of alpine glaciers. Glaciologists say that it is virtually impossible to ascribe the seasonal variations in the snow to the effects of global warming.

So we might be experiencing the deepest recession in nearly 25 yrs, and the Pound has plummeted to record lows against the Euro, but the skiing is superb, and the last bookings prove that skiers are enthusiastic to revel in the superb snow conditions. This season is definitely the best in six winters, and lots of skiers are announcing that it’s the best ski snowboarding snow in ten yrs.

Nevertheless recall that this amount of snow means raised risks of avalanche.

Victoria's Secret DISCLOSED

February 25th, 2009

SHHHHHH, don’t tell anybody, but, I know the secret.

It all started with a simple shopping spree. I had decided to surprise my wife with a new purchase of special clothing essentials from every man’s dreamiest of feminine wardrobe stores.

Yes, it was Victoria’s Secret.

After spending a few hours there, I mean, a few minutes, something became very apparent to me. It was very obvious to anyone with a trained eye and the gift of observance. It became very apparent that I was the only man in a store mainly comprised of women who was shopping alone.

At that moment, I could sense it. Obviously, I was Ted Bundy, Osama Bin Ladin and Sadam Hussein, all rolled into one.

Now, I’m being humorous, but every man who has embarked upon a shopping mission such as this can empathize with me.

Should I get cotton? Should I get satin? Should I get silk? What about lace? Of course, you have to touch the cloth and check the size to find just the right purchase, which causes even more feelings of suspicion as you lift each garment from the table it is displayed on. “I sure hope they don’t think I’m some kind of pervert”, I remember thinking.

After several, seemingly unapproachable moments, a young lady decided she would close the chasm that existed between us and, sheepishly I might add, ask if I needed some help. In this store where every piece of clothing is practically of an intimate nature, she assisted me in finding the sizes I needed.

Through all my humorous discomfort something began to dawn on me. While I didn’t go in on a mission of finding out what Victoria’s Secret “secret” is, I think this experience may have disclosed it.

Stay with me a few minutes and I will share with you what I think.

It is something that seems to have been misplaced in our desensitized sexually liberated culture.

THE SECRET

Let’s say that someone walks up to you and hands you the keys to two different cars. One of those cars is an old Subaru Justy and the other a brand new Ferrari. Do you think you might handle the Ferrari a little different than you would the Justy?

Of course you would, we all would.

We would probably wash the Ferrari a lot more. We would probably make sure the Ferrari was garage kept. While we may let just anybody drive the Justy, the Ferrari would be virtually unattainable for anyone to drive.

What’s the difference?

VALUE!

We always treat differently what we value.

That, I believe is Victoria’s Secret, secret. For years this franchise has made a living by placing high value on the female anatomy. You can’t experience a shopping escapade like the one mentioned above, see all the colors and the different fabrics designed to help a woman feel special, without seeing it.

THE APPLICATION

I wonder, have we cheapened the human sexual experience and personally lost the proper placement of value our creator has given our bodies?

When we show little concern about how we place our bodies on display. When we could care less about leaving anything to the imagination. When our mentors are the people showing the most skin.

Have we lost the issue of VALUE?

When program after program on TV reports teenagers engaging in sexual conduct with multiple partners on the back of a school bus. When high-school age kids are admitting to sexual encounters in the double digits before they graduate. When human sexuality is considered little different than an amusement park scream machine that anyone and everyone can ride if they wish.

Have we lost the issue of VALUE?

Remember, we always treat differently what we value.

Are we failing to value sexual intimacy and the bonding it brings to relationships? Are we failing to value the sacredness and oneness such an act produces? Are we failing to realize the lofty value our creator has given our bodies to be able to anatomically take part in the creation process?

The next time somebody who belongs in a kennel (Snoop Dog) or someone who belongs in a bag (Eminem), through music or actions tries to impress upon you that “Girl’s Gone Wild” actions are where body dignity is found, remember “Victoria’s Secret”. Your body has value, period.

The value you place on your body will be reflected in how you use it.

Are you travelling along the slippery slope to your grave?

February 24th, 2009

When it comes right down to it where ever you go is where you are, whatever you end up doing, that’s what you are doing, whatever you are thinking right now, that’s what’s on your mind, what has happened to you, has already happened.
The important part is how are you going to handle it?

In other words “NOW WHAT”. Like it or not this is all we have to work with.
At every moment of the day, we find ourselves at the crossroads of here and now. The reason we can often feel lost is because we momentarily lose touch with ourselves and with the full extent of our possibilities. We fall into a robot like way of seeing, thinking and doing. In those moments, we are breaking the contact with our deepest inner self.

What we need to do is wake up to the way we do things. Waking up goes hand in hand, with what we might call “wisdom or spiritual enlightenment” which helps us to see more deeply into the cause and effect, the interconnectedness of things.

By seeing and understanding your inner self and trying to change your life for the better does not mean you are weird or becoming a religious zombie. It is simply being you and knowing something about yourself.

It helps to see the path we call life with its direction and meaning. You can easily remain on a slippery slope right into your grave if you do not do something about it.

We may never quite touch the fullness of our possibilities. Instead we lock ourselves into a personal fiction that we already know who we are, that we know where we are and where we are going, that we know what is happening, all the while remaining enshrouded in thoughts, fantasies and impulses about the past and the future. About what we want and like, what we fear and do not like. These thoughts spin out continuously, under veiling our direction and the very ground we standing on.

If what happens now does influence what happens next, then does it not make sense to look around from time to time, so you are more in touch with what is happening around now? You can then take your inner and outer bearings and perceive with clarity the path that you are actually on, the direction in which you are going.

You need to look inside yourself, only you can decide if you are happy and fulfilled and I mean “really happy and fulfilled” with the path you are on. If you are unsure then the chances are you wish to change something in your life. This could be a physical or mental change. By physical I mean you may wish to me healthier and would like to take up more exercise. You may wish to travel the world. By a mental change I mean a greater understanding of something that interests you, to educate your mind.

For example you may wish to travel more, see parts of the world that offer great wonders or different cultures. Unfortunately you do not earn enough money to do this.

If you were to educate yourself in your line of work, gain qualifications and advance your career path. You would then earn more money, which in turn would allow you to travel.
You see the choice is yours. You decide which path you wish to take.

The majority of people do not fore fill there full potential. They lack confidence and effort but most of all they do not believe in there own ability to change their life for the better.
Change your mindset. Believe in yourself and you will gain confidence. Put in the effort and you will reap the rewards both mentally and physically.

If you do this you will be in a better position to chart a course for yourself that is truer to your inner being. A soul path a path with a heart your path with a capital P.

Are all hair loss treatments just one big scam?

February 24th, 2009

The hair loss industry is not one that inspires great confidence in most people. I have to admit this is perfectly understandable given the damage caused by the many rogues and charlatans who have abused the trust of far too many vulnerable people - people who have received worthless and even dangerous products or advice in exchange for their hard earned cash. The end result is the prevalance of a stigma that the industry is hard pressed to shake off.

But is this perception really justified nowadays? Are there no genuine treatments that sufferers can turn to in a bid to treat the ravages of premature hair loss? The simple answer is YES, there are several safe, affordable, accessible and effective hair loss treatments currently available. Some have even been approved by FDA for the treatment of hair loss conditions while others draw on natural remedies as the basis for commercially available products. Whether or not any of them are suitable for a given individual depends on a number of important factors.

First and foremost, every individual must determine the exact cause or causes of his or her hair loss. This may appear to be an over-simplistic statement but the truth is, most people undergoing a course of treatment for hair loss have proceeded on the basis of self-diagnosis. Given the fact that premature or excessive hair loss is often associated with underlying medical conditions, this is perhaps not the most sensible course of action.

My advice in all cases is to seek the guidance of a qualified medical practitioner because the consequences of not doing so may be serious in a small number of cases. Even where all the evidence points to the onset of hereditary male pattern baldness it would probably be best to seek advice, if only to rule out other factors.

Once the cause of hair loss has been properly diagnosed you will be in a position to choose a suitable form of treatment. This may range from the prescription of drugs aimed at balancing disrupted hormone levels to the topical application of minoxidil to reduce the symptoms of male pattern baldness.

Hair loss may be caused by many factors including changing hormone levels, illness, stress, overuse of strong chemicals, excessive traction, poor grooming practices, side effects of medical treatment, poor nutrition, weak immune system and the effects of aging. The good news is, all of these can be tackled with reasonable hope of success but only if you choose the right treatment.

The next article in this series will look closely at the various causes of excessive hair loss and outline suggested treatments that are both affordable and accessible. If you take only two things from this article, please take these suggestions on board:

1. Always seek the advice of your physician before undergoing a hair loss treatment regime.

2. Don’t despair, there’s often a simple explanation for excessive hair loss and even hereditary loss or male pattern-type baldness can be treated successfully for most people nowadays.

Do’s and Don’ts for the Internet Marketing Newbie (Part

February 19th, 2009

I, myself, being an internet marketing “newbie” (endearing term used to refer to people who have just started their own internet business and don’t know what the —- they are doing) have learned a few things and would like to share my observations, tribulations, and triumphs with my fellow “newbies”. In sharing my experiences I hope I can help you avoid some of the pitfalls and obstacles you will face. Let’s try to avoid some of those “Information Overload” headaches as well. I don’t want you to walk through the same mud puddle if I can point it out and help you avoid it.

First, in the article which is Part 1, I will list some important “DO’s”. Part 2 will cover the DON’Ts.

Do take your time, one step at a time. Do understand that building your business is not something than can be done in a matter of days, not even months in most cases. It’s going to take time, lots of time.

Do practice Patience! I know it’s not one of my virtues either and it’s really hard to put into practice, but to save your sanity, try to be patient!

Do understand in the beginning you will be suffocated with so much information and resources your head will hurt (that’s where the Information Overload headache comes from) and you will not know which direction to take first. You’ll just be spinning your wheels if you try to go off into 20 different directions at once. Remember, concentrate on one thing at a time!

Do use your best judgment when weeding through all of the information. Throw away the obvious hype and keep what you feel is resourceful and useful.

Do make it a goal to accomplish one task each day. Later when you can handle it add one or two more tasks. Progress slowly.

Do look for free resources, there’s plenty out there on the internet to help you build and promote your business. There’s also a lot of hype and misinformation and just plain bad information, so definitely use number 4.

Do join some good internet marketing forums. You will find a lot of advice and tips on how to promote your business. Many people there are also “newbies” and you can bounce ideas off of each other. Many will post what has worked or hasn’t worked for them. Learn from the internet marketing experts, they were in your shoes at one time, benefit from their experiences.

Do file and organize the information you receive for retrieval later on. Organize your email by creating folders to keep information categorized and easy to find. Keep a log in Microsoft Excel with all of your affiliate ID’s, affiliate URL’s, and memberships.

Do learn some basic HTML code. This will make it easier for you to change, delete, and make any additions to your website. If you don’t know how to add a link to your website then how will you exchange links with other websites to increase your search engine rankings. Go to http://www.htmlgoodies.com and take their basic HTML tutorial. Read my article titled “Why You Should Learn HTML” on my Articles and News page at http://www.profitfromhomebiz.com

Do realize that it’s going to take a lot of work and time to establish your business. Especially, a business on the internet. It’s not an auto-pilot business. You will probably spend more hours working at this business than you would a regular 9 to 5 job.

Chances are you are new to internet marketing, so study and learn as much as you can before you just jump in. Know what to expect and be prepared.

Do realize that having an internet business is just like having a business in the “real” world. You need to have a plan, you need to advertise, and you must have a budget.

Do download the “30 Days to Success” E-book written by Stone Evans. You can find a free copy on my website at http://www.profitfromhomebiz.com. You will need to provide your name and email address which will subscribe you to my Home Business Tips Newsletter (which is full of internet marketing tips and articles), and then you can download the E-book. It gives you a day by day guide on how to promote your business online. It’s an invaluable tool!

Do believe in yourself and your abilities. Believe in your success!

I divided this article into two parts so you would not fall asleep trying to read the whole article at once. Part 1 of this article has covered the DO’s for the internet marketing newbie. Part 2 of the article will cover the DON’Ts. Be on the lookout for the part 2!

Purchasing Business Cover Is Particularly Essential to the Operation of Your Firm

February 19th, 2009

There is no question the fact that the success of a firm ultimately is because of the work carried out by the employees, however one incident can promptly wipe out your work & shrink the income to dust. Thus, to keep away from such an occasion, you are suggested to insure your business, whether it’s a small firm or a big corporation. Nevertheless, please bear in mind that smaller companies are considerably more likely to require business insurance in today’s harsh world. This is mostly as smaller organisation owners will have placed their entire lives and income into the company.

Some of the things typically guarded by most business insurance covers include: natural tragedies, Tsunamis, mechanism or equipment crash that shuts down the company, loss of earnings as a result of employee failure & court cases brought against the business.

There are hundreds insurance organisations, which provide policies that include protection for all important property and legal risks in one single package. You can also opt for a separate cover. Such a policy cover is usually branded as a business owners’ policy (BOP). Bigger firms might well splash out on a business-related policy cover.

BOPs comprise of building insurance for buildings & equipments belonging to the organisation. If there is any loss of income as a result of disruption of functions & business because of tragedies like floods, it can be covered under the Business Interruption Insurance.

There are a choice of liabilities, which protects the organisation’s legal responsibility for the damage it might inflict to others. It is the effect your firm’s failure to do the business operations. It can also be the physical injury or property damage caused because of substandard manufactured goods, faulty fittings & mistakes in services provided. Buy business insurance cover quick and easy online today.

Though, BOPs don’t protect against professional liability, vehicle insurance, workers’ reimbursement or health and disability cover. With this in mind, separate policies are vital for professional services, commercial vehicles & employees. Generally, floods, earthquakes & terrorist attacks are not covered in the business policy. Always check before you purchase a policy!
